Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions characterized by persistent disturbances in eating behaviors and an intense preoccupation with body weight and shape. According to the DSM-5, common types include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder. These disorders often involve emotional and psychological struggles alongside physical health risks.

Anorexia Nervosa is marked by an extreme restriction of food intake, an intense fear of gaining weight, and a distorted body image, often leading to severe weight loss. Bulimia Nervosa involves episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors such as purging to prevent weight gain. Binge Eating Disorder is characterized by recurring episodes of eating large quantities of food while feeling a loss of control, without subsequent purging.
